Taurus TX22 FRT: What the 22TY Forced Reset Trigger Changes

The Taurus TX22 is the pistol that made a .22 LR forced reset trigger make sense: a full-size rimfire with a good factory trigger, 16-round magazines and ammunition that costs cents. The 22TY™ from Freedom Fingers FRT is the forced reset trigger built for it.

How the TX22 FRT works

The 22TY replaces the TX22's factory disconnector. During recoil, the slide's movement forces the trigger forward into its reset position. When the slide comes back into battery the trigger is released, ready for the next pull. Each pull fires one round. What you lose is the pause between reset and your next pull; what you keep is a semi-automatic pistol.

Which TX22 models

All of them. TX22, TX22 Compact, TX22 Competition and TX22 T.O.R.O. share the same disconnector and take the same 22TY.

What it feels like

A stock TX22 has a short reset already. With the 22TY the reset is done for you; keep pressure on the trigger and the pistol paces you. Split times drop sharply, and because the recoil is almost nothing, sights stay on target. Expect to use more magazines per session, not more skill.

Ammunition and reliability

Rimfire is the variable. The 22TY does not change ignition, so the pistol will be exactly as reliable with a given ammunition as it was before. High-velocity plated rounds run best. Keep the fire-control area clean; rimfire fouling shows up in the reset first.

Drum magazines

A GSG drum with a TX22 conversion adapter turns a range session into one long string. Check that your state does not restrict magazine capacity before buying one.

Installing it

A 30 to 45 minute bench job with a 1/16" punch. The disconnector pin is tiny and launches itself if uncovered; order the 3-pack of pins and use the TX22 bench block. Full steps in the TX22 installation guide.
