Freedom Finger Triggers TX22 Install Guide: 22TY FRT Step by Step

This is the Freedom Finger Triggers TX22 install guide for the 22TY™ forced reset trigger. The 22TY replaces the factory disconnector in the Taurus TX22. It is a drop-in part, but the disconnector pin is small and under spring tension, so read the whole guide once before you touch the pistol.

Before you start

• Remove the magazine. Lock the slide back. Look and feel: the chamber must be empty.
• Work on a bench with good light. Rimfire parts are small.
• Tools: 1/16" punch, small hammer, safety glasses, the TX22 bench block (or a generic block and tape), and a spare disconnector pin or two.

Step 1: Field strip

With the magazine out and chamber clear, pull the slide slightly back, push the takedown lever down and ease the slide forward off the frame. Set the slide, barrel and recoil assembly aside.

Step 2: Locate the disconnector

Look into the frame behind the trigger bar. The disconnector sits in the fire-control housing and is held by a single cross pin (Taurus part 24). This is the pin you will drive out, and the one that goes missing if you do not cover it.

Step 3: Drive the pin

Set the frame in the bench block so the pin is over the relief hole. Put a thumb or a cloth over the far side to catch the pin and the disconnector spring. Drive the pin out with the 1/16" punch. Lift the factory disconnector and its spring out and put them in a bag; you will want them if you ever sell the pistol.

Step 4: Fit the 22TY

Drop the 22TY into the disconnector position the same way the factory part came out, spring oriented as shown in the printed instructions. Align the pin hole with the frame hole and start the pin by hand. Tap it home until it is flush both sides. If it fights you, the device is not fully seated; do not force the pin.

Step 5: Dry function check

Reassemble the slide. With the pistol still unloaded: rack the slide, pull the trigger, hold it back, and rack the slide again. You should feel the trigger pushed forward against your finger as the slide moves, then release as the slide closes. Release the trigger, pull again, and it should fire (click) normally. Repeat ten times. If the trigger will not reset, the device is not seated or the pin is proud on one side.

Step 6: Range test

Load a single round first, then five. Confirm one round per pull. Then run a full magazine. A clean TX22 with quality ammunition should run the 22TY without changes to any spring.

Troubleshooting

• Trigger does not reset: pin proud on one side, or fouling in the housing. Re-seat and clean.
• Light strikes: almost always ammunition. Try a different lot before changing anything.
• Doubling: stop. Unload. The device is not seated correctly. Reinstall from step 3.
